Overview

Big data, big dreams

The growth of big data, social computing and the Internet of things are accelerating the demand for high level computing skills. The BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree offers the opportunity to study both the theory of computation and practical approaches to the design and implementation of systems.

The course is based upon the internationally recognised Association of Computing Machinery recommendations for Computer Science curriculum guidelines and equips students with the solid base of computing knowledge required in this fast moving field.

We offer the opportunity for all undergraduate Home/EU students to undertake a work placement, internship or work experience while studying a full-time course starting in September 2020.

We have a range of enticing modules to tailor your studies by, including Software Engineering, User-centred Design, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence. Methods of assessment for course overall: 59% coursework.

Optional sandwich year

Year 4

  • Honours computer science project
  • Systems and cyber security
  • ICT project management in practice

Plus one option from:

  • Mobile computing

And a final option from:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Smart internet technologies
  • AR/VR technologies

Entry requirements

  • A Level BBB or;
  • BTEC National Diploma DDM or;
  • Access to HE qualifications with 24 Distinctions 21 Merits including 3 Merits in Maths and 12 Merits in ICT or;
  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 122 UCAS points
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
  • We welcome qualifications from around the world. English language qualifications for international students: IELTS score of 6.0 or Cambridge Proficiency or Advanced Grade C.
